A useful fit for

A two-channel SDI PCIe option when one low-profile x4 card needs to ingest two SDI sources and preserve each path through dedicated SDI loop-through connectors.

The main tradeoff

The dual card requires an electrical PCIe Gen2 x4 slot and its loop-throughs are SMA, not BNC; two short SMA-to-BNC leads are listed in the standard package. Its SDI inputs stop at 3G/supported 2K, and the 144fps/2048x2160 headlines are qualified rather than guarantees for two concurrent high-rate feeds.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is Dual SDI the model for two SDI sources with monitor loop-through?

It is the two-channel model in this SDI group: Magewell lists two BNC inputs and two SMA loop-through outputs. The standard package list includes two 33cm SMA-to-BNC cables and a low-profile bracket. Confirm both actual source timings and the U.S. offer contents.

Can both Dual SDI inputs run at the card's headline frame-rate maximum?

The public technical sheet does not promise both inputs at the headline maximum. It gives up to 144fps in selected capture formats, qualifies the result by PCIe bandwidth and the on-board pixel clock, and gives about 80fps at 1920x1080 as an example. Confirm the exact concurrent mode pair with the source, driver and software.

What must fit in my workstation for Dual SDI?

Check an electrical PCIe Gen2 x4 slot, low-profile bracket opening and the physical board revision. C1 and C2/C3 have different specified board lengths. The standard package lists the low-profile bracket and two short SMA-to-BNC loop leads, not long SDI camera cables; confirm the retail kit and seller's written terms.

This is an evidence-led assessment of the Magewell Pro Capture Dual SDI, part 11060 (SKU 110600000), based on the manufacturer's product page, technical specification and an authorized U.S. identity listing. It is not a field test. The model addresses a specific installation problem: two SDI capture channels in one PCIe card, with a loop-through path for each source. Its extra density is useful only if the workstation, signal formats, connectors and recording software are planned together.

Two input channels and two loop-through paths

The product page specifies two SD/HD/3G/2K SDI inputs, each accepting a maximum input raster of 2048×1080. Magewell describes the card as a two-channel HD capture device and also lists loop-through for both inputs. The technical sheet calls the two loop-through sockets SMA rather than BNC; the standard package lists two 33 cm SMA-to-BNC leads and a low-profile bracket. That connector detail is easy to miss when comparing it with the single-channel Pro Capture SDI, whose loop-through is BNC, or the Quad SDI, which has no loop output.

The SDI path carries embedded audio. The family specification lists up to eight mono audio channels at 48 kHz, 10/12-bit source support and RGB or YCbCr sampling, but the useful question is whether the camera or switcher sends a timing and mapping the card can capture. Magewell supports SD/HD/3G standards and supported 2K, not 6G or 12G UHD. Treat the “2K” limit literally: it is not a 4K card merely because a capture-side output raster can be larger after processing.

Keep capture and loop-through distinct

The loop-throughs pass the source signal onward on their own SDI connectors; they do not create HDMI display outputs. If a local monitor or downstream recorder expects BNC, the supplied SMA-to-BNC cables are part of the standard model package, but verify that the actual retail kit includes them. The manufacturer product listing and technical specification are the source for the two channels, PCIe interface and loop connectors. The retailer page is used only as a U.S. part-number identity bridge, not as proof of current inventory, price or the contents of an individual offer.

Rate figures need the same restraint. Magewell lists capture image resolution up to 2048×2160 and up to 144 fps, but says real capture rate can be limited by PCIe bandwidth and the on-board pixel clock; it gives approximately 80 fps at 1920×1080 as an example. We therefore assess one Windows/PCIe/OBS SDI feed at 1080p60. The two-channel design is a material input-count advantage, but the public documentation does not promise every input at the headline maximum under every host and encoding load. If two simultaneous feeds are essential, get the exact signal-mode and software combination confirmed for the target motherboard and application.

Professional signal edge cases still matter

The specification explicitly limits capture of 3Gb-DS to the first stream. For dual-link inputs, one listed 10-bit 1080p50/59.94/60 YCbCr 4:2:2 case is captured as 1080i, while other dual-link color formats are handled with format changes or subsampling. That can be decisive in a broadcast chain: a connector that fits is not enough. Check whether the source is 3G Level A or B, single- or dual-link, which timing is selected, whether embedded audio is present and whether the desired workflow depends on preserving progressive or color information. The card's supported color depth does not by itself establish HDR recording.

Installation and software checks

Dual SDI uses PCIe Gen2 x4 and a low-profile card. The specification records slightly different board lengths for C1 and C2/C3 hardware revisions, with the same 64.4 mm width; the individual U.S. offer's revision is not identified by its model number alone. Maximum power is listed at about 9.15 W with high-performance firmware and 8.34 W with low-power firmware. Before buying, confirm an electrical x4 slot, chassis bracket height, card clearance and the correct firmware for the actual revision. An x4 connection is a host requirement, not a promise that any four-lane slot remains free after other motherboard devices share lanes.

Magewell lists Windows, Linux and Mac and names OBS, Capture Express and other software in its compatibility material. Linux V4L2 and macOS AVCaptureSession are listed APIs. That supports a Windows/OBS 1080p60 plan and general Mac/Linux compatibility, but not a Mac-specific mode table or every app's dual-input audio behavior. Confirm the current driver and check how the chosen application enumerates both capture devices before a permanent install.

When this is the right channel count

Compared with the single-channel SDI card, Dual SDI adds another input and a second loop-through, at the cost of an x4 host link and SMA-to-BNC adapters. Compared with the Quad SDI, it uses fewer input channels and has the two loop outputs that Quad lacks; Quad is physically normal-profile and x4. For a single source on a portable computer, an external USB Capture SDI model avoids the internal-slot requirement. These are different workflow choices rather than simple price or performance steps.

Check the source timing, available PCIe lanes, bracket, board revision, both SMA leads and the offer's exact SKU before ordering. No SDI cables are listed as supplied, and a U.S. reseller's listing does not establish stock or warranty coverage for the actual unit. The key buying question is not just “does it have two inputs?” but whether both intended feeds, their audio, downstream loop paths and the host application's mode negotiation work together.
