Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does this card take one 12G-SDI 4Kp60 source?
Yes, Magewell's model-specific FAQ says the SDI 4K Plus accepts up to 4Kp60. It is one channel using a single-link 12G, dual-link 6G or quad-link 3G connection. It does not support 4Kp120 dual-link SDI. Confirm the source's exact format and the card's PCIe x4 host path.
Explore this need in the finder →Are the four HD-BNC sockets four independent SDI inputs?
No. Magewell describes one capture channel; the sockets support alternative link configurations for one input signal. The model has no published SDI loop-through output, so the separate display/monitor path must be designed outside this card.

Check for the exact part 11180/SKU 111800000, a suitable electrical PCIe Gen2 x4 slot, low-profile clearance, the offered board revision, and the four short HD-BNC-to-BNC leads plus low-profile bracket that Magewell lists. The leads are not full-length SDI cables; no seller stock, offer condition or warranty is inferred here.
Explore this need in the finder →This assessment is based on Magewell's model page, technical specification, support FAQ and a U.S. identity listing. It is not a hands-on test. The Pro Capture SDI 4K Plus (part 11180) answers a narrow but useful question: how to ingest one high-bandwidth SDI source when the source may be wired as single-link 12G, dual-link 6G or quad-link 3G. Its four HD-BNC sockets are part of those alternative link arrangements, not four independent cameras.
One capture channel, several SDI link layouts
Magewell identifies this as a one-channel 4K card. The connector map gives two HD-BNC sockets that accept SD/HD/3G, one that also accepts 6G, and one that accepts up to 12G. A single 12G signal uses one socket; a dual-link 6G source uses a pair; a quad-link 3G source uses four. The physical count matters when planning a rack or camera patch panel, but it should not be read as channel count. If four different cameras need independent capture, this is not the right configuration just because four BNC connectors are visible.
The model-specific Magewell Pro Capture FAQ is unusually helpful about the upper input boundary: it says the SDI 4K Plus supports up to 4Kp60 and explicitly says it does not accept 4Kp120 dual-link SDI. The broader technical sheet lists a 4096×2160 capture raster and a generic ceiling of up to 144 fps, while warning that the real rate depends on resolution and PCIe bandwidth. That general ceiling is not a 4K144 claim. Treat 4Kp60 as the documented high-resolution target; check source timing, bit depth, color sampling and the exact link layout before buying.
Capture is not a monitor loop-through
The reviewed interface and package pages list input connections, but no SDI output or display passthrough. The four HD-BNC connectors serve the input's single-, dual- or quad-link format; they are not a set of loop outputs. If the source also needs to feed a confidence monitor, router or downstream recorder, budget for a separate distribution path. The card captures to a computer; it is not an SDI splitter.
This distinction separates it from the earlier Pro Capture SDI 11050, which is a lower-resolution single-channel model with a documented BNC loop-through. The SDI 4K Plus expands the input standard to 12G and adds 4Kp60 capability, but the older card's loop-through arrangement does not transfer to part 11180. The two-channel Dual SDI 4K Plus is also a different product: it has two channels, eight sockets grouped four per channel, and a PCIe x8 host link.
Installation is a desktop-card decision
The card uses PCIe Gen2 x4 and a low-profile form factor. Magewell lists dimensions of 140 × 68.88 mm without its bracket. Before ordering, check that the motherboard slot is electrically at least x4, that the chassis accepts a low-profile card, and that the installed graphics card or other board will not obstruct the slot or reduce available bandwidth. Magewell's technical sheet gives maximum power figures that vary with the selected link arrangement: about 10.9 W for quad-link 3G, 10.59 W for dual-link 6G and 10.39 W for single-link 12G. These are useful integration facts, not a reason to assume every workstation's slot and cooling plan is adequate.
The manufacturer's package list names four 17.3 cm HD-BNC-to-BNC leads and a low-profile bracket. Those short breakout leads let the card's HD-BNC sockets meet standard BNC cabling; they are not long SDI source cables. Confirm that the actual U.S. package includes the parts you need and match the installed card revision to its firmware guidance. The U.S. dealer page bridges the model's part number, but it does not identify the revision of an individual unit.
Software and audio deserve their own check
Magewell lists Windows, Linux and Mac support, with DirectShow on Windows, V4L2 on Linux and AVCaptureSession on macOS. OBS appears among compatible applications. A conservative Windows/PCIe/OBS arrangement can be evaluated for one 1080p60 feed; the model-specific 4Kp60 input support is a separate higher-mode question. The current driver note says macOS 13 or later, and the reviewed material does not give a Mac-specific mode table, so a desktop compatibility statement should not be mistaken for a universal Mac frame-rate promise.
The SDI input carries embedded audio, and the specification lists up to eight mono channels at 48 kHz. A separate Magewell family FAQ says Windows applications that do not use the Magewell SDK can capture at most two LPCM channels. That difference can matter more than the connector when a production expects a multichannel audio handoff. Confirm how the chosen capture application exposes audio, which SDI channel is embedded and whether the project needs the SDK path. Ten- or twelve-bit SDI input support by itself does not establish HDR recording.
Who should compare it
This is a focused fit for a workstation that has a suitable x4 slot and needs one 4Kp60 SDI input in one of the supported link formats. It is less suitable when the requirement is multiple independent feeds, HDMI display passthrough, an SDI loop output, 4Kp120, or an external laptop connection. For two simultaneous 4K60 SDI sources, compare the Dual SDI 4K Plus and check its larger x8 host requirement; for a single lower-rate feed with a loop output, compare the Pro Capture SDI 11050. The deciding questions are source link type, capture application, host lanes, package cables and a separate monitor route—not the number printed beside the card's frame-rate ceiling.
Key specifications
Key details at a glance
| Signal input | Four HD-BNC connectors assigned to one channel: one connector supports 12G, another supports 6G, and all four can form a quad-link 3G input. The four sockets are not four capture channels; no SDI loop-through is listed. |
|---|---|
| Confirmed capture formats | Manufacturer lists input/capture image resolutions up to 4096x2160 and up to 144fps in the generic capture sheet, with real frame rate limited by PCIe bandwidth and image resolution. A model-specific FAQ confirms SDI input up to 4Kp60 and says 4Kp120 dual-link SDI is unsupported; do not treat 144fps as a 4K rate. |
