Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the Pro Capture Mini SDI capture one 1080p60 SDI feed while preserving an SDI monitor path?
The part 11130 has one SDI input plus a separate SDI loop-through. Magewell lists SD/HD/3G/2K input; the Windows/OBS assessment uses one conservative 1080p60 feed and does not treat the qualified 144fps ceiling as a 1080p120 guarantee.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the Pro Capture Mini SDI compatible with an ordinary desktop PCIe slot?
Not by size alone: this is a 30x51mm Mini PCIe Gen2 x1 module, not a conventional full-size PCIe bracket card. Confirm that the host board has the matching Mini PCIe connection or a compatible carrier, and verify the selected heat sink clears the enclosure.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the Mini SDI model provide 4K60 HDMI passthrough or a guaranteed 1080p120 capture mode?
No. The model has an SDI loop-through, not HDMI display output. Its 144fps capture ceiling is qualified by PCIe bandwidth and pixel clock, with about 80fps at 1920x1080 cited as an example; the assessment therefore does not claim 1080p120 or 4K capture.
Explore this need in the finder →This is a specification-led assessment of the Magewell Pro Capture Mini SDI, part 11130, not a hands-on test. Its value is not simply that it has an SDI socket: the card combines one SDI capture path with a separate SDI loop-through on a small Mini PCIe board. That can solve a compact-system installation problem, but only if the computer really has the matching internal slot and the source is within the card’s supported SDI family.
Start with the slot, not the connector count
The 11130 is a Mini PCIe Gen2 x1 add-in module measuring 30 by 51 mm, not a conventional full-size PCIe card and not an external USB capture device. A desktop that has an open full-length PCIe slot does not automatically have a Mini PCIe connector; a carrier or purpose-built embedded computer may be required. Check the host board documentation for the electrical interface, available lane path, mounting point, power and enclosure clearance before treating the small board size as an easy fit.
Magewell lists three physical SKU options on the product page: 111300000 with a small heat sink, 111300001 with a large heat sink and 111300002 without a heat sink. The U.S. dealer identity page we checked is the small-heat-sink MAG-11130 listing; the other two are manufacturer-listed configurations, not separate capture engines. Their exact clearances differ, but the evidence does not establish a performance or temperature ranking. In a tight embedded case, compare the actual pictured SKU and space around adjacent components, then verify the airflow and enclosure design rather than choosing a sink style from guesswork.
One SDI input and a real SDI loop-through
The card accepts one SD/HD/3G-SDI input, including supported 2K up to 2048×1080, and has a second MMCX connector for loop-through of the incoming SDI signal. That lets downstream SDI equipment remain on the source chain while a computer captures the feed. It is not an HDMI monitor output, a second capture channel or a format converter. If the display or recorder expects HDMI, another conversion or distribution device belongs in the signal plan.
The tiny MMCX sockets need the right breakout. Magewell’s specification lists two 32 cm MMCX-to-BNC cables; its package listing shows the card and the MMCX-to-SDI breakout item. Confirm the contents of the exact offer and leave room to route both the input lead and loop-through lead without putting strain on the board-mounted connectors. The input carries embedded SDI audio; the technical sheet documents up to eight mono audio channels at 48 kHz. That does not promise that every application will expose or route the channels in the same way.
Interpret the maximum-rate line conservatively
The manufacturer's page gives an input maximum of 2048×1080 and lists support for SD, HD, 3G and 2K signals. The separate capture-format table advertises image sizes up to 2048×2160 and rates up to 144 fps, but it explicitly qualifies those figures: PCIe bandwidth can limit capture, and the board’s processing pixel clock limits higher rasters. Magewell’s example is about 80 fps at 1920×1080. Those are not interchangeable guarantees, so this assessment uses one conservative 1080p60 capture plan on Windows rather than assigning 1080p120, 1440p144 or 4K to the card. Match the source’s exact signal standard, timing and color format to the manufacturer's detailed tables.
There are additional edge cases behind the SDI label. The spec notes that only the first stream of 3Gb-DS is captured. For certain first-link dual-link 1080p signals, the captured result may be 1080i or use converted/subsampled color, rather than preserving the incoming link exactly. It supports 10/12-bit SDI input and 10-bit processing, but that alone is not evidence of an HDR recording mode. Buyers needing a specialized dual-link or HDR workflow should confirm that exact format with Magewell before choosing this model.
Software is part of the installation
Magewell lists Windows, Linux and Mac, along with OBS and Capture Express; its technical sheet names DirectShow/DirectKS on Windows, V4L2 on Linux and AVCaptureSession on macOS. The model can therefore be considered for a conventional Windows/OBS 1080p60 route, while the Mac plan here records only the broad supported host/software listing and makes no Mac-specific mode claim. The product page’s current Mac driver note calls out macOS 13 and above, which is a reason to check the present driver package and exact OS rather than relying only on an older technical-sheet minimum. For Linux, verify the current kernel driver and the selected application’s device format list.
This is a PCIe module for integrating into a computer, not a plug-and-play capture dongle. Driver installation, firmware revision, device discovery, application input selection and channel mapping all matter. The technical specification also describes a low-latency mode and multiple capture streams, but those software features do not establish a particular end-to-end delay or simultaneous application performance for an untested host.
Where it fits in the Pro Capture family
Compared with the full-size Pro Capture SDI 11050, the Mini SDI keeps a single SDI input and loop-through but uses MMCX breakouts on a Mini PCIe module instead of the larger card's BNC bracket connections. Compared with a USB Capture SDI model, its host path is internal and its loop-through is a distinct physical SDI path. The choice is therefore primarily about enclosure, host slot, cabling and the supported SDI mode—not an assumption that “Mini” means a lower-latency or faster version.
Checks before buying
First verify the exact part 11130 and SKU, especially whether the offered card has the small, large or no heat sink. Confirm a Mini PCIe Gen2 x1 host or a compatible carrier, clearance over the selected heat sink, driver availability for the intended operating system, and an SDI source within the model's exact input table. Check that the required MMCX-to-BNC leads are included and that the separate SDI loop-through suits the downstream device. If your need is HDMI output, 4K60 capture or a guaranteed 1080p120 plan, this is not the documented fit. These details are based on manufacturer documents and a U.S. identity listing; no unit was installed or tested, and no price, stock or seller condition is asserted.
