A useful fit for

A two-channel 4K SDI ingest card for a workstation that genuinely has an electrical PCIe Gen2 x8 slot and needs two SDI sources recorded at once; Magewell specifically documents simultaneous 4K60 capture on both channels.

The main tradeoff

Each channel consumes a group of four HD-BNC sockets for its chosen link arrangement, so eight connectors do not mean eight cameras. The card needs an x8 link, carries no listed SDI loop-through and uses eight short adapter leads; the exact package, downstream application load and chassis clearance need checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Dual SDI 4K Plus capture two 4K60 sources simultaneously?

Magewell's product-specific release says both inputs can be used at once and supports two 4096x2160-class channels at 60 fps with independent settings. The source can use single-link 12G, dual-link 6G or quad-link 3G SDI. Plan for an electrical PCIe Gen2 x8 slot and confirm the capture application's handling of both channels; this is not an HDR or encoding benchmark.

Does the card's eight-connector bracket create eight capture channels?

No. Magewell's support article says the driver loads two capture channels, and each channel corresponds to four interfaces. Multi-link SDI uses several connectors for one video source; the eight sockets do not represent eight separate feeds.

What needs to fit before installing Dual SDI 4K Plus?

Check the PCIe Gen2 x8 electrical slot, low-profile card/chassis fit, cable bend room and eight short HD-BNC-to-BNC leads listed by Magewell. Its package list does not name a separate low-profile bracket, so check the exact offer. The card has no published loop-through; the source-to-monitor route is separate.

This is a specification-led assessment of Magewell's Pro Capture Dual SDI 4K Plus, part 11270 (SKU 112700000), not a field test. Its defining feature is not simply a large number of BNC sockets: the card has two capture channels, and each channel is wired to a group of four HD-BNC interfaces so it can accept different SDI link arrangements. That makes the card unusually capable for a fixed workstation, but installation and signal planning need to start with channel groups, not connector count.

Two channels, eight sockets, four per source

Magewell's support article answers the most important connector question directly. After installation, the driver loads two capture channels. Each channel corresponds to four physical interfaces: two support single-link 3G, one also supports 6G, and one supports 12G. One connector can carry a 12G source; the last two can form a dual-link 6G source; all four can form a quad-link 3G source. Thus the eight sockets do not represent eight separate cameras. They provide flexible cabling for two sources, with each source consuming one group according to its format.

The manufacturer describes two simultaneous 4K60 channels with independent resolutions, frame rates and processing settings. Its current product specification also lists capture resolutions up to 4096×2160 and a generic up-to-144-fps ceiling, qualified by image resolution and PCIe bandwidth. The useful comparison point is the specific two-channel 4K60 statement, not the broad 144-fps headline. It does not prove 4K144, HDR recording or a particular software encoder's ability to sustain two streams. If a signal is quad-link, each source uses four connectors; if it is single-link 12G, it uses one. The other available sockets are not automatically loop outputs.

High-density capture, not a display distribution card

The product page and technical sheet describe SDI inputs and capture channels, but do not list a loop-through output. Plan a separate SDI router, splitter or monitor route if operators need to view the source independently of the capture workstation. The card's role is to bring video and embedded audio into a host computer. A high-quality input connection cannot substitute for an output connector that the card does not provide.

For a one-channel 4Kp60 source, compare the single-channel Pro Capture SDI 4K Plus. It has four grouped sockets for one signal and a PCIe Gen2 x4 link. The Dual SDI 4K Plus doubles that documented 4K60 channel count but asks for PCIe Gen2 x8 and uses eight short breakout leads. The earlier Dual SDI 11060 is a different, lower-rate family member: two SD/HD/3G/2K channels with SMA loop-through outputs and a smaller x4 host link. None of those differences should be inferred from the shared word “Dual.”

Check the slot and the full cable layout

Magewell specifies a PCIe Gen2 x8 host interface and a low-profile card measuring 127.89 × 102.92 mm without its bracket. A slot that is physically long enough is not automatically an electrical x8 connection. Check the motherboard manual for lane width and sharing, plus the chassis' bracket height, nearby card clearance and cabling space. The technical sheet gives maximum power of roughly 23.05 W for quad-link 3G, 22.62 W for dual-link 6G and 22.52 W for single-link 12G, so chassis cooling and power planning are part of the fit rather than an afterthought.

The manufacturer package list identifies eight 17.3 cm HD-BNC-to-BNC cables. They adapt each socket to BNC wiring but are not long camera runs. Magewell's product “What's Included” section does not name a separate low-profile bracket, even though the specification describes a low-profile add-in card; verify the exact U.S. offer and the bracket supplied with the unit. Do not assume all eight cables are included in a seller's used or incomplete package.

Software compatibility is not an encoding benchmark

Magewell lists Windows, Linux and macOS APIs and names OBS, vMix, Wirecast and other compatible software. Its news release supports two simultaneous 4K60 channel captures as a hardware mode, and the product page supports OBS compatibility. Those sources justify assessing an OBS-compatible Windows workflow, but they do not report an OBS test on a particular CPU/GPU, storage path or project. A two-source scene also carries encoding, preview and audio-mixing work beyond the capture card. Check the actual workstation and capture application with both expected sources before locking in a production design.

The specifications list up to eight mono audio channels at 48 kHz on SDI. Magewell separately notes that Windows software not using its SDK may expose at most two LPCM channels. Confirm how the chosen app enumerates each of the two capture channels and its embedded audio. Mac compatibility is listed, and the current driver note specifies macOS 13 or later, but the reviewed sources do not supply a Mac-specific simultaneous 4K60 mode matrix. The model's Windows assessment should not be transferred to Mac without confirming the exact driver and application.

Who should put this on the shortlist

This card is for a permanent x8 workstation where two SDI feeds need to be ingested at once, including a documented two-channel 4K60 workflow. It is not a good shortcut for a laptop without a suitable PCIe expansion enclosure, a setup requiring a built-in monitor loop, or a rack that expects one connector per camera. Before buying, write down the signal standard and link method for each source, confirm how many of the four connectors each one consumes, reserve an x8 lane path, and verify the eight short leads and bracket configuration. Those checks explain its real advantage—and its installation cost—more accurately than treating it as a generic “eight-input” card.

Key details at a glance

Signal inputEight HD-BNC sockets, grouped as four per capture channel. Within each channel, one connector accepts single-link 12G, a pair accepts dual-link 6G, or all four accept quad-link 3G; they are not eight independent feeds and no loop-through output is listed.
Confirmed capture formatsTwo simultaneous 4K60 channel captures are explicitly described by Magewell's product-specific news release, using single-link 12G, dual-link 6G or quad-link 3G SDI. The generic up-to-144fps ceiling is not a 4K144 or simultaneous maximum-rate promise.
