A useful fit for

A single-source PCIe desktop capture path for an unencrypted HDMI 1.4 or 6G-SDI source when 4K30 is sufficient, with a typical 1080p60 route and no display output.

The main tradeoff

The original AIO 4K is not the 4K60 Plus; the card has one selected channel, PCIe x4 host requirement and no built-in passthrough. HDMI/SDI input, source rate and any external display split must be checked.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does Pro Capture AIO 4K record 4K60?

No. Magewell's model-specific announcement distinguishes the original AIO 4K's 4K30 ceiling from the Plus model's 60fps capability. Part 11170 still lists HDMI and 6G SDI inputs and a 4K raster, but the 4K rate differs by model. Choose the Plus for documented HDMI 4K60; its SDI 4K path is 30fps.

Can the HDMI and SDI sockets feed two capture channels at once?

No. Magewell identifies one channel with HDMI and SDI as alternative source routes. The product and technical pages list no video loop-through. Use a separate multi-channel card for simultaneous capture, and a separate distribution path if the signal must also reach a display.

Which AIO 4K arrangement is the source-based fit?

For part 11170, use a PCIe Gen2 x4 desktop, one unencrypted HDMI 1.4/DVI-D-compatible source or 6G-SDI source, and the model's 4K30 ceiling or typical 1080p60 target. Magewell lists Windows/Linux/Mac and OBS-compatible software, but the reviewed mode table is not OS-specific. Confirm the source timing, board revision and external display path.

Scope: this is the one-channel Magewell Pro Capture AIO 4K, part 11170 / SKU 111700000. It is distinct from both the HD Pro Capture AIO (11020) and the HDMI-only Pro Capture HDMI 4K (11120). I assessed the manufacturer product page, technical sheet, datasheet and family brochure, and used a U.S. dealer page only to bridge the model identity. This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on capture test; the archived U.S. identity page did not provide a saved offer page, so it is not evidence of current stock or seller terms.

One flexible input channel, selected between HDMI and SDI

The AIO 4K combines one HDMI input and one SD/HD/3G/6G-SDI input on the card. Those sockets provide alternative paths into one channel; Magewell describes the signal as HDMI or SDI rather than two independent feeds. A buyer who needs to record a pair of cameras at once should look at a multi-channel board instead. The HDMI input is specified as HDMI 1.4 / DVI-D 1.0 compatible, while the SDI path is 6G. Neither socket is a monitor output: the product and technical pages list capture inputs but no built-in loop-through. If the signal must continue to a display, plan an external split or output path rather than assuming this card can forward it.

The model-specific rate distinction matters more than the broad “4K” label. Magewell’s product material supports input/capture rasters up to 4096 × 2160, and its technical sheet includes a general maximum rate qualified by pixel clock and PCIe bandwidth. That generic ceiling is not a promised rate at every resolution. In the 2018 AIO family announcement, Magewell identifies the original AIO 4K’s 4K capture ceiling as 30 frames per second; the later AIO 4K Plus is the 60fps version. Treat this part 11170 as a 4K30-class card, not a 4K60 solution.

When 4K30 is enough—and when the Plus matters

A 4K30 ceiling can fit a fixed camera, presentation source or archive workflow whose delivered source is already 30fps or lower. It is not the right pick for a console or desktop capture plan that must preserve a 4K60 signal in the recording. The later AIO 4K Plus is an important sibling but not a drop-in name variant: Magewell specifies HDMI 2.0 and 4K60 capture for the Plus over HDMI, and its own material limits the Plus’s SDI path to 4K30. So choosing the Plus still does not make an SDI 4K60 workflow possible. Select by the actual connector and signal rate together.

For a conventional streaming target, the AIO family brochure lists 1080p60 among typical formats. That is a useful conservative target for a Windows desktop with an electrical PCIe Gen2 x4 slot and compatible software. Magewell lists Windows, Linux and Mac support and names OBS among compatible software, but the reviewed mode sources do not give a separate rate-by-rate chart for every operating system and application. The conservative operating plan is therefore Windows, PCIe x4, one unencrypted HDMI or SDI source, 1080p60 or the specifically qualified HDMI 4K30 mode, and OBS-compatible capture. It is not a guarantee that every host, driver, source color format or recording codec will sustain that rate.

Installation, source signal and package checks

This is an internal low-profile PCIe Gen2 x4 card, not an external USB device. Check that the computer has an available slot with the required electrical link, enough adjacent clearance, airflow, a suitable bracket opening and room to route both video cables. A mechanically full-length slot may still be electrically configured for fewer lanes, and a laptop’s USB port does not replace a PCIe host. Magewell lists a low-profile bracket in the product package. Check the exact offer’s revision and included bracket before ordering, particularly if the card is going into a standard-height case or expansion chassis.

HDMI capture also depends on the source being unencrypted. Magewell’s support guidance says HDCP-encrypted HDMI cannot be captured. That is a limitation, not something to work around. Confirm the source will output an unencrypted signal at the required timing, and verify any camera, switcher or console settings before purchasing. For SDI, confirm the source’s exact SDI link and raster; a broad 6G label does not prove every timing/format combination with every source.

HDR and the practical tradeoff

The AIO 4K’s reviewed product page does not promote an HDR10 workflow, although Magewell’s SDK release notes include HDR10-related SDK support for specific Pro Capture models. That does not establish an end-to-end, mode-specific HDR workflow for this card in OBS or any particular application. The safer fit assessment leaves HDR capture unclaimed; buyers who need HDR should verify the card revision, input mode, EDID, SDK sample and output file path with Magewell before designing around it. For a confirmed HDR10 capture route, the AIO 4K Plus has more explicit model-level HDR support, but software and EDID requirements still matter.

The strongest reasons to choose part 11170 are the combination of one HDMI and one SDI source connector, internal PCIe installation and a price-independent 4K30 role when 60fps is not needed. Its compromises are equally clear: it captures one source at a time, has no documented output, needs a PCIe x4 host and does not meet a 4K60 requirement. Verify part 11170 / SKU 111700000, board revision, source connector, rate, electrical slot and package contents as one system checklist before buying.
