A useful fit for

A developer-oriented internal PCIe 3G-SDI board for a workstation using DIN 1.0/2.3 cabling, with four configurable 3G paths or a grouped four-link 4K/Ultra HD path.

The main tradeoff

The standard Corvid 44 uses compact DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors and 3G-SDI. Its four-link 4K/Ultra HD path consumes all four connections in one direction; there is no HDMI or consumer pass-through route.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the Corvid 44 capture one SDI source at 4K60?

AJA lists 4K/Ultra HD high-frame-rate modes through 50/60p. The standard Corvid 44 groups all four 3G-SDI connectors into that single source path; check routing, cabling, PCIe host and the developer application.

Can I connect an HDMI console and pass 4K60 to an HDMI display?

No. The Corvid 44 is SDI-only. AJA documents SDI I/O, not HDMI input or HDMI consumer display passthrough; its linked 4K mode is not a gaming passthrough route.

What connector and host should I verify for a 1080p60 capture?

This standard version uses DIN 1.0/2.3 SDI connectors and an internal four-lane PCIe 3.0 host. Verify the source cable, bracket height, PCIe slot, driver/SDK and package accessories; BNC and 12G editions are separate models.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the Corvid 44 capture and monitor 4K60 at the same time?

The 3G-SDI board can use all four ports for one 4K/Ultra HD output, but those links are configured for input or output rather than simultaneous 4K capture and monitor. If simultaneous capture and display monitoring are essential, compare a 12G Corvid 44 12G model instead.

Can the Corvid 44 output 4K60 over SDI?

The 3G-SDI board can use all four ports for one 4K/Ultra HD output, but those links are configured for input or output rather than simultaneous 4K capture and monitor. This is a professional SDI output route, not HDMI console passthrough.

Current-reference AJA PCIe SDI I/O · four 3G-SDI connectors

AJA Corvid 44 is a professional PCIe capture-and-playout board, not an external console-capture box. Its four SDI connections are individually assignable as input or output in software. The distinction between this 3G model and the similarly named Corvid 44 12G matters more than the shared “44”: this board reaches 4K and Ultra HD through a four-link 3G arrangement, rather than a single 12G connection.

What the four connectors can do

AJA’s exact product sheet documents four bidirectional 3G-SDI connections and standards from SD through HD, 2K, 4K and Ultra HD. The published format table includes 1080p through 60 fps and 4K/Ultra HD high-frame-rate modes through 50/60p. The card can use the connectors as separate SDI channels or link them for a higher-raster signal, but those are different configurations. This assessment treats one 1080p60 input as a conservative single-feed plan. For 4K/Ultra HD at 60p, all four 3G links must be built and routed as one source; it is not four independent 4K inputs.

SDI input and output both exist, but this is not a consumer HDMI loop-through device. AJA also lists a four-link 4K/Ultra HD output arrangement; those four links are assigned to output in that playout mode. It is not input-to-monitor 4K passthrough, because the same four-link arrangement cannot also use the ports for 4K input. The 12G sibling differs here: AJA explicitly documents simultaneous 4K capture and SDI monitoring over 12G. HDR signaling metadata appears in the specification, but that alone does not establish an HDR recording mode in a particular application or codec. No rate-specific HDR capture match is assigned here.

Connector and workstation fit

The standard Corvid 44 uses four 3G-SDI DIN 1.0/2.3 connectors. That compact connection style is a real installation choice, not a different 3G timing limit. Check the package and cable plan for the exact offer: AJA’s current page describes full-height and low-profile configurations, and the source pages do not identify a single retail SKU or establish which adapters a seller includes. The model is an internal four-lane PCIe 3.0 card. It needs an appropriate desktop/workstation slot and chassis access; it cannot connect directly to a laptop over USB-C or Thunderbolt.

Current AJA documentation lists Windows, macOS and Linux support through its developer-facing NTV2 ecosystem. The current macOS v18 installer is limited to Apple-silicon Macs on macOS 14 or later; Intel systems require a separate older-software compatibility check. AJA’s software matrix lists OBS Studio for the Corvid 44, and OBS provides an AJA device plugin that uses the NTV2 driver. That is useful evidence for an OBS path, not proof of every format, plug-in build or workstation. OBS’s own AJA plugin notes that 4K/SDI-4K workflows need more testing and 8K is not implemented, so this review only makes an OBS plan at 1080p60. AJA also cautions that its retail desktop software offers limited feature support for Corvid products, which are aimed at developers; a production workflow may need a particular SDK-based integration.

Where this card makes sense

Consider this exact 3G model when an installation already uses the smaller DIN 1.0/2.3 SDI connector, needs multiple software-directed 3G-SDI I/O paths, or can wire all four links for a 4K/Ultra HD source. It is a poor fit for someone whose main requirement is a simple gaming setup with HDMI input, HDMI passthrough, a USB laptop connection or guaranteed OBS 4K capture. Its four connectors are not four universally simultaneous maximum-rate channels in every host and application.

Choose the Corvid 44 BNC if the workflow calls for full-size BNC cabling; it retains the 3G signal class but uses a different connector and bracket arrangement. Choose Corvid 44 12G or Corvid 44 12G BNC if a 12G link is essential: those are separate products with eight-lane PCIe and a 12G rate path, and their connector differs between HD-BNC and full-size BNC. Do not infer that capability from the “44” name or from this model’s four-link 4K table.

Checks before selecting an offer

Verify the exact Corvid 44 name, the 3G connector type, PCIe slot and bracket clearance, whether the package is full-height or low-profile, and whether any required breakouts are actually included. Confirm the signal standard and whether the source uses one 3G-SDI feed or a four-link 4K arrangement. Then check the exact AJA driver/SDK version and capture application on the intended operating system. This is an evidence-based comparison of AJA’s documentation, not a hands-on test; no installation, recording quality or application performance was measured.
