Can the Corvid 44 12G capture one SDI source at 4K60?
AJA lists 4K/Ultra HD through 60p and specifically says 12G-SDI capture and monitoring can be simultaneous. Use one compatible 12G input with the AJA NTV2/developer route; confirm source format, host resources and software.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I connect an HDMI console and pass 4K60 to an HDMI display?
No. The Corvid 44 12G is SDI-only; its documented input and output connectors are HD-BNC SDI. AJA documents no HDMI input or direct HDMI consumer-display passthrough, so it is not a gaming passthrough path.
Explore this need in the finder →What connector and host should I verify for a 1080p60 capture on the Corvid 44 12G?
This model has HD-BNC inputs and an eight-lane PCIe 3.0 host. Confirm the exact HD-BNC cabling, PCIe slot, power choice, board height and fanless airflow requirement; the full-size-BNC 12G sibling is a distinct model.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the Corvid 44 12G capture 4K60 while feeding an SDI monitor?
For 4K/Ultra HD over 12G-SDI, AJA explicitly permits capture and SDI monitoring at the same time. This is a professional SDI output, not HDMI console pass-through. Verify the 12G source, monitor, software, PCIe host and board configuration; this does not establish HDMI output.

Corvid 44 12G is the compact-connector member of AJA’s four-port 12G Corvid group. The “12G” is the important distinction: it supports an individual 12G-SDI source path, while the similarly named Corvid 44 uses four 3G links for a 4K/Ultra HD arrangement. This is a PCIe board for broadcast, production and developer workflows—not a consumer USB capture card.
One 12G input versus a four-link setup
AJA lists four bidirectional 12G-SDI HD-BNC connectors, with backward-compatible 6G, 3G and 1.5G standards. The raster table includes HD through 1080p60, 4K/Ultra HD through 60p, and 8K/UltraHD2 modes subject to the host and selected configuration. For one 4K/Ultra HD input at 60p, a 12G link is the relevant path; AJA’s sheet explicitly says capture and monitoring can be simultaneous over 12G-SDI at 4K/Ultra HD. That monitor is an SDI output path for compatible professional equipment, not HDMI game-display passthrough.
The same sheet explains why port count is not a performance promise: 4K/Ultra HD over 3G requires all four connections to be used for input or output, while 8K/UltraHD2 over 12G also uses the connections in one direction. When the ports are set to 12G or 6G, the card is restricted to the supported 4K/UltraHD/8K raster family. The source table supports many modes, but every frame rate is dependent on the host system, firmware, application and chosen link layout. This review therefore records one SDI 4K60 input plan and does not claim four simultaneous 4K feeds or an 8K-through-OBS workflow.
HD-BNC, PCIe and chassis requirements
The four video connectors are HD-BNC, a compact connector family that is physically different from the full-size-BNC sockets on Corvid 44 12G BNC. Check the cable ends and any adapters in the signal chain: an “SDI” label alone does not guarantee the connector mates. AJA describes full-height and low-profile configurations, passive or active cooling, reference/timecode connections and RS-422 options that vary with bracket configuration. The product page does not establish one universal seller SKU or which extras are inside a particular offer.
The host interface is eight-lane PCIe 3.0. The specification lists 25 W typical, 32 W maximum and says the board can use PCIe slot power or a six-pin ATX lead. That makes motherboard, chassis power, slot width and airflow practical compatibility checks, not afterthoughts. The passive version needs at least 150 LFM of chassis airflow at 30 °C; the active version uses a fan. Do not choose a fanless version solely for silence without verifying the surrounding case airflow and the exact board configuration.
Use a named application with care
AJA’s compatibility matrix names OBS Studio for this exact Corvid 44 12G model, and OBS’s AJA plugin connects through the NTV2 SDK and the required AJA device driver. The manufacturer’s matrix is useful model-level evidence, but OBS’s own plugin notes say 4K SDI transports need more testing and 8K has not been implemented. The supported plan here therefore separates an OBS 1080p60 path from a 4K60 SDK/developer path. Selecting the OBS option alone does not establish that OBS will ingest every listed 12G mode.
AJA documentation also lists Windows, Apple-silicon macOS and Linux software routes. The current v18 macOS installer requires Apple silicon and macOS 14 or newer; Intel Macs need an older-driver review. AJA notes that Corvid products target developers and that some retail desktop-software features are limited. If an installation depends on Control Room, a specific plug-in or a certain firmware/software pairing, verify that exact route before purchase rather than assuming the general OS list proves it.
Who should compare the BNC version?
Choose this HD-BNC edition when the compact connector is part of the installation design and the source or router can deliver the 12G link you need. The Corvid 44 12G BNC model keeps the 12G feature class but uses full-size BNC connectors; it is not the old 3G Corvid 44 BNC. Neither 12G model promises HDMI loop-through, gaming VRR or a direct USB workflow. AJA’s HDR support information covers SDI signaling and metadata handling, not a rate-specific recording claim for every application, so no quiz HDR recording mode is asserted.
Before selecting an offer, check the exact 44 12G model name, HD-BNC versus full-size BNC, card height, active/passive cooling, six-pin power requirements and the source’s SDI transport. Confirm the PCIe slot and verify the intended 4K60 input plus SDI monitor arrangement in the software that will actually run it. This is a documentation-based assessment; it is not a hands-on benchmark or a promise of stock, price or a particular included cable set.
